This is the ongoing tale of my players exploring the depths of the Star Wars universe. For an audio version, click here.
Four hours prior to the Invasion of Theed, three Trade Federation forces converge on the City of Parrlay. OOM-9 Comes from the west. EEK-176 comes from the north. And the Commando Droid force from Episode 2 comes from the East. Nearly completely surrounded, Parrlay is rapidly falling by the time the heroes arrive!
Our beloved trio of officers from New Centriff arrive in Flash Speeders, but it’s already too late! Trade Federation forces are locking down intersections and a tank is working towards the comm towers. Parrlay is the last communication hub that is operable on the planet! It cannot fall!
Worse still, The Bardottan Sphere is at risk of capture. A beloved relic of the Naboo people from its ancient and forgotten orb crafting days, it is truly priceless! For the first time this campaign, players are actively on two opposing forces about to clash due to two of their characters being hospitalized…
SGT JONSN, the tank gunner from Episode 2, had received its designation after successfully piloting the first of the Commando program. Sergeant Johnson was in command of his mighty AAT and had just arrived. Streets were mostly secure by this point, and all he had to do was navigate to the towers and destroy them. It seemed simple enough. Naturally, he immediately encountered a pile of wrecked vehicles at the first intersection watched over by a destroyer droid.
He decided plowing through was the most prudent choice. He rammed through the wreckage, taking a small amount of damage from one of the vehicles as it burst into flames, but he made it through and began trundling menacingly down the street.
On the other flank, the droid commander from Episode 2, CMOR-T17T3E5, was organizing the infantry. His name was long and pronounced by organics as SeeMore Titties. Gathering his personal B1 battle droids, he ordered four securing the landing pad to come with him and began working towards the comm towers as well.
As the Trade Federation made its first push with vulnerable support units, the anti-spice commandos rolled in on their heavily armed flash speeders. Each one piloted their own speeder taken from a patrol station on their way here, accompanied by a NPC gunner. Their mission, save the Bardottan Sphere and impede the Trade Federation as much as possible! Parrlay was already considered a lost cause, and the city was on the verge of surrender!
They came in low and fast, dodging over debris. Immediately, they spotted a squad of three STAPS holding to pursue any runners. All three crept in with the speeders, and fired! Immediately, the dice went wonky. Falere rolled a 1, toppling one of the four comm towers. The other two officers both rolled natural twenties, causing a chain reaction that blew up the third before it could raise an alarm!
SeeMore made note of the collapsed tower with the heavy influx of comm chatter. The AAT was ahead of schedule and deserved recognition for the Commando program! He proceeded with patrolling the city to put the lockdown fully in effect.
Johnson proceeded, assuming that SeeMore had beaten him to the target and was getting the job done. He continued down the street to assist.
The officers did a quick stakeout of the burning museum. A squad of 11 B1 battle droids were in front holding the intersection. They were rudely interrupted by the main cannon of the AAT blasting the second tower to smithereens!
A hasty plan was made to hit and run the tank to destroy it. If they could save at least one tower, it would force the Trade Federation to commit any local troops to finish it off. This would likely remove the security from the museum.
They skimmed and zoomed over the fallen tower, opening fire with their heavy blaster cannons! Only Jaheira’s made a solid hit, which damaged the tank. The other two missed or ricocheted off of it!
Johnson was rudely interrupted from his havoc by a sudden lurch and alarm klaxons blaring! He spotted at least two flash speeders zipping by. He quickly turned and fired. Now the player knew he rolled bad sometimes. His last character had just been hospitalized from having his Lek blown off. He decided to put the d20 in the other player’s court and fired a rocket salvo instead.
Jaheira saw the incoming rockets and easily lifted above them with her Dexterity Save, letting them sail harmlessly by. Well, harmlessly to her. Very harmful to whoever was behind her in the distance.
All three converged and fired, beating the heck out of the tank. As it stood, one more successful salvo would destroy it! Instead of engaging the speeders that kept darting out of range, Johnson pulled back and destroyed the third tower!
Again, the speeders came in, firing another volley. This time, one missed! The tank was just barely functioning, but proved more than capable when firing and destroying the last central tower!
Kitty darted in on her speeder and fired the finishing shot, wrecking the tank. At least they didn’t have that to contend with anymore.
Splitting off, Kitty and Jaheira began harassing the B1 battle droids. And by harassing, they began annihilating them with heavy shots and fleeing out of range before they could react!
Immediately, SeeMore ordered all B1s, including the ones he brought with him, to engage the speeders! As soon as he did this, Falere slipped past and parked in the back.
SeeMore blinked his photo lenses rapidly. Those things were fast! It was out of sight almost immediately. He ordered four more to come with him, and left the rest to push back the flash speeders. His unit began searching for the speeder, but epically failed the Perception check thanks to a broken cinderblock the driver placed on his hood.
Johnson climbed out of his tank with his driver and began falling back to the museum. At first he met up with the chasing B1 droids, but as soon as he realized they were getting annihilated by the same speeders, he began sprinting away!
Jaheira and Kitty continued to draw them off, harassing and shooting up the B1 droids until finally none were left. While they were doing this, SeeMore failed to spot the flash speeder again, finally spotting it from mere feet away. It gave one of his droids a complimentary cannon hole and then took off, leading them away from the museum. Eager for a chance to push it out of town and be done with it, SeeMore pursued!
While the distraction was happening, Falere was working her way to the Bardottan Sphere. She had guarded it during an anti-Trade Federation protest less than a year ago and knew exactly where it was! The problem was, she was having a hard time getting there.
The back end of the building had been blown out and was in flames. The fire escape was decimated as well. The first attempt pushed her back with the heat of the flames. The second try had a hard time getting the grapple hook to set. The third got her where she needed to be.
A pile of rubble let her get close enough to use the hook easier and swing across to a service hallway. This part of the building was relatively sound, but not for much longer. Already she could hear the cracking sounds as the building’s integrity failed. She quickly scurried up to the Bardottan Sphere and was pleasantly surprised that she remembered the security code to open it without sounding the alarm!
She made a mental note to write someone a ticket for negligence, pulled it free, and then called for a ride. Hers had been badly shot up and was well out of town at this point. Some militia on foot got the call, but were unable to provide any real assistance. A few moments later, Kitty and Jaheira were able to pull up.
Falere did a perfect natural twenty athletics, jumping and sliding directly into the back seat while the three volunteers that didn’t directly help joined.
As the officers raced off, they failed to notice Johnson hiding in the burning museum. Who in turned failed to notice the flash speeders come and go. Eventually, he linked up with SeeMore Titties and they finished securing the city.
Parrlay had fallen! Theed would have no warning that an entire droid army was descending upon them in just a few hours! Players on both sides were able to secure their objectives.
